Carla Beattie Portfolio Shoot

Allow me to introduce you to Miss Carla Beattie @ Colours Modeling Agency. I'd like to offer her my congratulations for moving from new faces to the main board models at Colours.
Carla traveled the length of Britain to take part in Sunday's portfolio shoot, from London town to the Grain Stores Glasgow. 3 looks in only a few hours was a tall order but the team rose to the challenge. A BIG up to Kat McSwean for make up, styling AND (at the last minute as our hairdresser was struck suddenly ill) hair. So here are the shots from the day. One pseudo CK/GAP style advert shoot, an editorial style underwear shoot and a fab wee showcase shoot for a dress by Glasgow's own young designer (NAME MISSING).

Carla along with 5 other models was part of the pre Christmas 'Faces of Colours' shoot done for Colours agency's 2010 advertising campaign. Keep an eye on the blog for the video and images from that shoot coming soon after their launch on the 28th of January.

Miss Hayley Buchanan Test Shoot

Test Shoot. Definition: A Test Shoot is when a photographer wants to try out a new creative idea, test some new equipment or film, wants to build their portfolio or just wants to plain practice... As you can see from above the images don't necessarily have to run in a pictorial/editorial style or story.

On this test I was lucky enough to be working with the fantastic Hayley Buchanan of ModelTeam. Hayley was the 'Peoples Choice' in 2009s Britain's Next Top Model, and from anyone who has ever had an email from me she is the model from my signature pictures.

Emma Wilson

Miss Emma Wilson @ Colours Modeling Agency. These are images from a test shoot done way back in July 2009. I'm enjoying looking back at the work of 09. Emma styled herself on this shoot, with Jak Morgan doing the painting of the eyes and lips. Really enjoyed working with Emma and hope to catch her again in 2010.

Lern To Pleat/Braid

Everyday is a school day they say. And the other day was no exception! A life skill I somehow managed to make it to 30 without needing I have now mastered and am teaching on to others... Many thanks to Mhairi for her instruction and her therapeutic tearing of sheets. Am I good at braiding? Heck no! I dare say there are others more qualified to teach the intricacy's of pleating or braiding, but..... A lesson passed on with enthusiasm is a lesson worth having right?

More Images from this shoot coming soon

Retrospective

I'm using January as a month to look back over last years work, and with that comes a real feeling of achievement. A lot happened towards the end of 2009 and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been dropping by the blog and website, also to all of my clients form 2009. Its been a tough old year all round with redundancy's and new beginnings for many. I'm one of the privileged few that can say with no uncertainty that I'm doing what I want to be doing and enjoying every moment. So with that in mind what is my plan for 2010? Easy! 2010 is the year of competitions, publications and lots of other 'tions.
Starting the year off was an underwear shoot at the Malmaison Edinburgh for 'The Echo.' Then on to prepping for the first production meeting this month for POSED's 3rd edition. At the end of January is shooting for SAKS hairdressers Glasgow for competition entry portraits. January also sees the release of an advertising campaign shot at the end of last year for Colours Agency Glasgow. More on that soon.

2010 also sees the Launch of a new project of mine called 'The 50pence Portrait.' The website is on its way so I hope to see you all there soon!

One from the Archives

I seem to be sitting on lots of images from the end of last year. Most are shoots done for advertising or magazines but a few were just for fun, So I thought Id have a flick through what I have and post one from Holly's shoot last year. I love shooting with Holly she cuts some fantastic shapes and is a hoot along with it.
Here is two other posts of Holly: link1 link2 She featured in Sep 09s photo of the month.
This image was taken on the streets of Edinburgh. They were shot with one speedlite and an shoot through umbrella. I'm a huge fan of simple lighting at the moment. If i can do it with one that that's what I'll do. It is of course a phase I'm sure and ill be back to 57 lights before the end of the year. But for now simple is really doing it for me.

Back For 2010!

Back into the busy fray and hitting the ground running with 2 shoots in 2 days. This is an image from today's shoot (yesterdays was for a magazine so more to follow soon) with model Lisa Lewis and make up artist Paulina Siembor. Paulina is known for her bright and colourful make up artistry, (more images from this shoot to hit the blog soon, watch this space_______) and she didn't let us down today with rainbow lashes and ribbon taking center stage for most of today's shoot. However the image above is one from the end of the day after the make up was stripped back. Concentrating on a simple one light set up today the image is shot with a classic feel in mind. Lisa has a quality to her poses that really plays with the light that really got the most from the minimal feel of today's shoot.

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!!!

For the keen eyed of you following my blog you may have noticed a lack of 'Photo of the Month' last month. There is a photo.... 3 in fact... They are coming.... Taken in December for Colours Modeling Agency they hit the streets in mid January along with a rather swish Video.... Its all happening!!!!
